History
In 1998, a group of prevention professionals in Maryland came
together to form a professional association to promote prevention as
an important field throughout the state. This active group created
position papers, defined prevention for other professionals, assisted
in statewide planning efforts in a way employees are often unable to
and provided assistance to others in the prevention field. Since then
MAPPA has served as a forum for discussion of issues, a means of
networking within the field and a voice to articulate prevention
concerns.

Although the State of Maryland has made gains in alcohol, tobacco
and other drug (ATOD) prevention over the last fifteen years,
Maryland still has an epidemic of alcohol, tobacco and other drug
problems.

MAPPA provides a forum to address these issues.
